Introduction.

There appear to be two main areas in England where, in the 18th and 19th centuries, the name Semmens may be found. There is a large group in the Penzance region of Cornwall and a smaller group in the villages to the East of Maldon in Essex. It is this latter group in which this site is intersted. There was something of a diaspora in the mid 1800s, some moved to what is now South East London, whist one person (Martin Semmens) moved to Devon and later Cornwall just to confuse things!

This site contains the fruits of several researchers' labours. Much of the information has been reported on the RootsChat site where I started by trying to trace two of my ancestors. Note that I am also interested in the Gooch family from the same area, so their data also appears on this site.

In addition I have made contact wth a number of other Semmens researchers on Genes Reunited where a copy of my tree may be viewed by any member for the asking.

I have attempted to bring together as much of that information as possible and present it in various formats that may be viewed and downloaded.
